How To Remove The Throttle On Your QuietKat E-Bike

Learn to convert your 750W, non-VPO bike to be Class 1 compliant by removing your throttle.

Tools Needed:

  • Scissors or small cable cutters
  • 5mm Allen wrench

Procedure:

  1. Locate Throttle Connection:

    • Identify the throttle located on your handlebars.
    • Peel off the Velcro holding the wire bundle together.
    • Trace the throttle wire to the throttle plug.
  2. Disconnect Throttle:

    • Use scissors or cable cutters to snip the zip tie holding the cables together (if there is one).
    • Disconnect the throttle from the system by pulling the plug straight out.
  3. Remove Throttle from Handlebars:

    • The grip and brake may be in the way of removing the throttle. If so:
      • Remove the grip by twisting and pulling it off with force. Newer models may require you to loosen a screw to remove the grips.
      • Loosen the brake lever clamp bolt with a 5mm Allen wrench. Slide the brake lever off the handlebars; note, the brake sensor may disconnect.
    • Loosen the 3mm cinch bolt on the throttle and slide the throttle off the handlebar.
  4. Reconnect Brake Sensor:

    • Reconnect the brake sensor, aligning the arrows.
    • Place the brake lever back on the handlebar without tightening it yet.
  5. Reinstall Grip:

    • Reattach the grip, ensuring it's fully on.
    • Adjust the distance and position of the brake lever based on personal preference.
    • Tighten the brake lever clamp until snug but not overly tight.
  6. Final Adjustments:

    • Adjust the grip, brake lever, and handlebar positions for comfort.
    • Ensure the brake lever can move slightly to prevent breakage in case of a crash.
  7. Secure Cable Bundle:

    • Use Velcro to wrap the cable bundle neatly, keeping cables organized.

By following these steps, you've successfully removed the throttle, and your QuietKat bike is now ready to ride in Class 1 electric bike mode.
