Brake Sensor Error
Error Code 02 and 25 on a QuietKat electric bike with a Bafang hub drive motor signifies a problem with the brake system. The brake sensor system is designed to cut power to the motor when the brakes are applied, ensuring rider safety. When this system encounters an issue, the error code is generated to alert the rider.
Troubleshooting Steps for Error Code 02 or 25:
1. Safety First
- Before attempting any troubleshooting, ensure your safety. Park the bike in a safe location and turn it off to prevent accidental engagement of the motor.
2. Check Brake Lever Connections:
The first step is to inspect the connections of your brake levers. Follow these steps:
- Locate the brake levers on your bike.
- Follow the brake sensor wire from the brake to the main bundle of connections located behind the handlebars. Check for any loose or disconnected wires.
- Ensure that the connectors are securely plugged into their corresponding ports. The brake sensor connection is a yellow plug that you will see when disconnected.
3. Test Brake Lever Functionality
Once you've ensured the physical integrity of the brake lever connections, test the brake lever functionality:
- Squeeze each brake lever individually and observe the behavior of the motor.
- The motor should cut power immediately when either brake lever is applied.
- If the motor doesn't cut power or cuts power too slowly, it indicates a problem with the brake sensor system.
If your motor is losing power intermittently, there may be a fault within the sensor that communicates the brake lever is being used when it is not. This will cut the motor power unnecessarily.
- Power off the bike and test the brakes one side at a time.
- Follow the brake sensor wire from the brake to the main bundle of connections located behind the handlebars. Disconnect the brake sensor plug (you will see a yellow plug once disconnected).
- Power the bike on and test ride. Please note, while the brakes will still function to bring you to a stop, the sensor is disconnected and will no longer report braking to cut the motor off. Avoid pedaling or pressing your throttle while braking with the sensor disconnected.
- If your motor no longer cuts power unnecessarily/intermittently, we know the brake sensor is faulty and needs replacement. Contact QuietKat support to order a new brake sensor.
- If the motor still cuts power unnecessarily/intermittently with that brake sensor disconnected, reconnect the sensor and repeat the process on the opposite brake.
- If you still have intermittent power loss, contact QuietKat support.
4. Contact Customer Support
If you've gone through all the troubleshooting steps and the Error Code 02 or 25 still persists, it's time to reach out to QuietKat's customer support. They can provide advanced diagnostics and repair services to resolve the issue.
Remember that tampering with your electric bike's electrical components without proper knowledge can be dangerous. It's often best to consult with a professional technician if you're unsure about any of the troubleshooting steps.
