Mid-Drive Error Code 10 - Motor/Controller

Controller/Motor Overheating Error

Error 10 typically indicates overheating with the controller or motor of your Bafang mid-drive electric bike. The controller is a critical component responsible for managing power distribution to the motor. When this error occurs, it means that the controller has detected an excessive temperature, which can lead to reduced performance or even shut down for safety reasons.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Stop Riding: Stop riding as soon as you see the error code or feel excessive heat from the motor/controller area between your pedals. Turn off the bike for safety.
  2. Cooling Period: Allow the bike to cool down for at least 20-30 minutes. Overheating can occur when the bike is used continuously or in extreme weather conditions. Power the bike on after 20-30 minutes, or when the motor/controller area no longer feels hot to see if the error code has been resolved.

  3. Visual Inspection: After the bike has cooled down, carefully examine the wiring around the motor. This will require you to remove the non-drive side motor cover plate. Look for loose connections, damaged wires, or any visible signs of wear. Ensure all connections are securely fastened. Report physical damage to QuietKat immediately, but DO NOT remove the motor from the casing without consulting with QuietKat customer service first; this could void your warranty.

  4. Check Battery Voltage: Low battery voltage can sometimes cause the controller to overheat. Ensure your battery is adequately charged. If the battery is old or damaged, it may need replacement. You can check the battery voltage by using a voltmeter. A healthy battery should read 54.6V at full charge.

  5. Monitor Riding Habits: Reflect on your riding habits. Avoid using the highest power settings continuously, especially on steep terrain, as this can put additional stress on the controller. Heavier hauling weights can lead to motor/controller overheating.

  6. Professional Assistance: If the issue continues despite your efforts, or if you suspect a faulty controller, seek help from QuietKat Support or a certified electric bike technician. They can conduct advanced diagnostics and replace the controller if necessary.
