2. Inspect the Packaging

Upon receiving your QuietKat electric bike, carefully inspect the packaging for any visible damage. If you notice any significant damage to the box, take photos as evidence before opening it. In the rare event of damage during shipping, it will be essential for the claims process. Should your bike and/or accessories be damaged during shipment, submit a support ticket here and a member of our Customer Service team will get back to you as soon as possible!

3. Unboxing and Assembly

Follow the assembly instructions provided in the product manual and assembly videos to set up your electric bike correctly. Pay close attention to safety precautions during this process. Most local bike shops offer bike build services if you'd prefer a certified bike technician assemble the bike for you!

4. Safety Gear

Don't forget to invest in essential safety gear such as a helmet, gloves, and any additional protective equipment. Your safety is paramount when enjoying your e-bike adventures.

5. Scheduling a Tune-Up

To ensure your QuietKat electric bike operates optimally and safely, consider scheduling a tune-up at a local bike shop. Even though QuietKat bikes are rigorously tested and inspected before shipping, the mechanical aspects may need alignment after transit. A professional tune-up can help identify and address any issues related to brakes, gears, and overall bike functionality.

Proper Riding Technique

Once your e-bike is assembled and tuned, it's important to ride it correctly for a smooth experience. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • Power-Assist Modes: Your eBike offers multiple power-assist modes, labeled as levels 1 to 5 or Eco, Trail, and Boost (for VPO bikes). Experiment with these modes to find the one that suits your riding style and terrain. Higher levels provide more assistance, while lower levels conserve battery power.

  • Pedal Activation: The pedal-assist feature engages the motor when you start pedaling. Make sure to pedal smoothly and consistently to maintain a steady speed.

  • Throttle: Use your throttle to propel you forward with the corresponding power provided in the selected power level, 1-5 or Eco, Trail, and Boost. Please note, VPO programmed bike throttles will be disabled when set to Class 1 and Class 3 per federal regulations

  • Braking: Utilize both your eBike's brakes for efficient and controlled stops. Remember to apply gentle pressure to avoid abrupt stops. As a safety feature, your brakes are equipped with brake sensors that will signal the motor to cease power while you are braking.

  • Uphill and Downhill Riding: When riding uphill, shift to lower gears before starting up the hill to maintain a comfortable pedaling cadence while utilizing the assistance of the motor. Conversely, when going downhill, use your brakes to control your speed while reducing reliance on the motor.

  • Shifting: Shifting properly when climbing hills is essential to avoid chain breaks and ensure a smoother ride. By anticipating the climb, shifting to a lower gear (larger cog on the cassette) before you start, and maintaining a steady cadence, you reduce strain on the chain, preserve bike components, and improve your overall cycling experience. Proper shifting makes uphill rides more efficient, comfortable, and enjoyable, and avoids chain breaks!

    • The above photo shows the chain in the largest cog of the cassette which corresponds to your lowest gear.

Maintenance Tips

Regular maintenance will ensure your QuietKat eBike performs optimally and extends its lifespan. Here are some basic maintenance tips:

Battery Care:

  • Follow the instructions provided in the manual to properly charge and store your eBike's battery.
  • Avoid charging at freezing temperatures.
  • Keep the battery between 30% and 70% charge when storing for longer periods of time.
  • Ride your bike regularly for good battery health.
  • Store the battery properly in cold conditions.
  • Minimize time the battery spends near 0% and 100% charge.

Tire Pressure:

  • Maintain proper tire pressure according to the recommended PSI range indicated on the sidewall of your tires. This will ensure optimal traction, efficiency, and comfort.

Cleaning and Lubrication:

  • Clean your eBike regularly, especially after off-road adventures, to remove dirt and debris.
  • Lubricate the chain and other moving parts periodically to minimize friction.

Inspections:

  • Routinely inspect your eBike for any loose hardware, cable connections, or components.
  • Check the brakes, shifting mechanism, and ensure the battery is fully secured in the frame before each ride to ensure all aspects are functioning properly.

Tunes:

  • The frequency of tuning an electric bike depends on various factors, including your riding habits, terrain, and the specific components of your e-bike. However, common intervals for maintenance tasks can range from every 200-500 miles or every 3-6 months, but this can vary. Most local bike shops will be able to perform routine maintenance/tunes on the mechanical aspects of your QuietKat eBike.
